Depression, Anxiety, and Mood Disorders

People experiencing depression, anxiety, and other related disorders might experience changes in their sleep patterns, mood, daily habits, energy and stress levels, and relationships. Your therapist can work with you to not only manage your symptoms and reduce them, but also explore what might be contributing to the problem or prohibiting progress. By exploring cognitive behavioral patterns (the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors), emotions and experiences, communication skills, and problem solving techniques, many individuals experience significant relief.

Trauma Resolution & EMDR

Trauma-Focused Therapy  focuses on how a particular traumatic experience is having an effect on the present and an individual's overall well-being. This type of therapy recognizes the connection between the traumatic experience and present responses. Through this process, one can learn skills to understand, cope with, and process the trauma. In the end, this type of therapy often results in a more adaptive way of making meaning of the trauma while courageously entering the future with hope.

EMDR
The EMDR process desensitizes disturbing memories and changes our relationship to them by activating the brain's innate ability to process information. It is often used as a method in trauma therapy. If you want to learn more, reach out to our therapists Sonia Cano, Dr. Nate Verschaetse, or Cindy Bird.

Marriage and Family Therapy

Marriage and family therapy can help people gain insight into their relationships, improve communication and listening skills, resolve conflict, and restore a sense of peace and harmony. Although the technique your clinician may use to help bring resolution to your problem may vary, all emphasize a focus on the presenting problem, active participation, the overarching "goal" and the changes needed to get there.  When family units and couples genuinely and authentically bring their conflict into therapy, healing, understanding, and change can start to occur.

Faith and Spiritual Issues

The recognition, respect, and incorporation of one's beliefs and worldview into therapy is something that has proven to be widely beneficial in therapy. Whether you are questioning your current worldview, exploring new ones, growing in deeper relationship with or understanding of your beliefs, or simply want to be free to integrate it into your sessions, we are here to walk with you. While all belief systems are respected at our practice, Journey to Peace specializes in Catholic/Christian perspectives. Please visit our "faith-based counseling" page to explore more!

Transitions and Adjustments

Change is something we all experience- but it doesn't have to be a bad thing. The goal of therapy during a time of transition is to get through the adjustment using healthy coping skills. Your clinician can help you in the midst of this change by equipping you with tools to transition smoothly, process your internal response, control your behavioral reactions, and maintain a sense of hope throughout the journey.

Addiction Counseling

It is no secret that addictions can be powerful.  When left untreated, they can have lasting negative effects. A professional addiction counselor is trained to help you to be in control of your addiction, so that your addiction is no longer in control of you. Addiction counselors can work with and encourage you throughout the treatment process by creating an individualized plan for recovery, sobriety management, and relapse prevention. Finding a competent professional to walk with you through this process is essential- reach out to us today!

Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT)

Child-Centered Play Therapy creatively combines the expertise of a mental health professional with play- which is often thought to be "the natural language of children." With this approach, the clinician uses play as a tool to help the child express, converse, and process thoughts, feelings, and experiences at a developmentally-appropriate level. AND they often have fun doing it! CCPT creates a safe environment that both empowers the child to vocalize their thoughts and create connection with their therapist. CCPT has been used treat children experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and relational disorders. As a thoroughly researched treatment option, it has been proven to be effective and healing.
